Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) was established under the Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei Act (Cap 163) and launched by His Majesty on September 29, 1991.
Its launch marked a new era for Brunei as it was the first financial institution in the country to conduct all of its activities in accordance with Islamic faith and principles.
As of today, Perbadanan TAIB successfully operates nine branches across the country.
They offer two types of financing – retail and corpo- rate. There are five subtypes of financing which fall under retail – personal, property, education, educa- tion kit and home improvement.
The bank also provides deductions for Zakat (tithes) which are later donated to a charitable cause. Last year, BND3.95 million worth of Zakat was presented to the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB).
Under their Non-Banking Unit, TAIB operates two petrol stations – the TAIB Beribi Petrol Station and the TAIB Delima Petrol Station – both opened in 1995.
Over the years, Perbadanan TAIB has strived to improve their customer reach and develop their existing infrastructure, products and services.
TAIB began offering SMS banking services in 2003 and later opened their first branch in Temburong in July 2011, which extended their reach beyond the Brunei-Muara district.
In 2016, they introduced their line of digital banking services, which included two major upgrades – mobile banking and Internet banking – enabling custom- ers to perform banking transactions securely and conveniently.
In August 2017, Perbadanan TAIB successfully opened its first Self Service Centre at the Giant Mall Rimba, which operates daily until 9pm.
Speaking at an annual dinner in 2017, Acting Managing Director of Perbanan TAIB Hajah Noorrafidah binti Sulaiman, revealed its future plans to establish a banking subsidiary. Year 2018 will also see the reloca- tion of its Temburong branch.
