Schlumberger is the world’s leading provider of technology for reservoir characterisation, drilling, and production and processing to the oil and gas industry.
The company supplies the industry with a com- prehensive range of products and services, from exploration through production and integrated pore- to-pipeline solutions for hydrocarbon recovery that optimises reservoir performance.
Schlumberger currently operates in more than 85 countries and employs approximately 100,000 peo- ple worldwide. In Brunei, they employ 180 people.
In April 2017, Cameron, a Schlumberger company which designs and manufactures flow and pressure control technologies for customers in the oil and gas industry, broke ground for a new facility near the Rasau toll station in Belait.
The five-hectare facility will be a regional hub for repair and maintenance of oilfield equipment and offer advanced training in oil and gas-related activities.
Sandy Ewen, the Vice-President of Cameron Sales and Operations, Middle East and Asia, at Schlumberger described the new facility as a plat- form for Cameron to support the Brunei market through various services.
A core mission of Schlumberger’s is to invest in local talents to provide them with the same opportunity to compete in a global landscape and grow their presence in management positions locally and inter- nationally in the near future.
They have several internship programmes in col- laboration with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), which involve taking up to eight interns a year and spreading them
across human resources (HR), procurement and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE).
Schlumberger also regularly hosts roadshows, safety talks and in 2017, started the local chapter of Connect Women Network. The global inclusion network empowers women to achieve their full potential through networking, mentoring, develop- ment and community outreach.
Speaking about the company’s 80 years of operation in Brunei during an interview, Managing Director Eric Voon underlined the evolution of the oil and gas industry. “It is evolving with digital solution and capabilities driving efficiency and value to deliver energy to the world,” he said.
“We will continue to provide the best in class solu- tions and technologies to the oil and gas industry, delivered by a competent and trained Bruneian workforce as we look to realise Brunei Vision 2035.”
