Beaches

One of Brunei Darussalam’s many charms is that the sun

shines all year round. Enjoy the golden rays of sunshine in this

tropical country near the equator, with stunning sand beaches

that line the northern coastline of Borneo. Whether you are

a sunbather, a surfer, or just someone who wants to take a

leisurely stroll along the beach and dip their toes in the water,

Brunei has just the right beach for you. So grab your sunscreen

and get ready for a paradise getaway. Here are some of

Brunei’s most notable beaches and watersports clubs.

Serasa Beach

The Serasa Beach is popular among watersports and picnic

lovers. This recreational beach hosts a range of watersports

activities including jet skiing, kayaking, windsurfing, sailing,

powerboat racing, aqua sports training, water skiing as

well as banana boat rides. For visitors looking to wind

down, the beach is developed with amenities including

picnic shelters complete with barbecue grills, resting huts,

restrooms, tracks for jogging and cycling, a fitness area and

a playground for children. There are also stalls selling fresh

food, fruit, fish, handicraft and even pets.

Close to the Serasa Beach is the Royal Brunei Yacht Club

(RBYC) which was opened in 1980. With an open-air stilt house

design and a private beach area, the club bursts with activities

during the weekends and holidays. Club members enjoy the

open-air restaurant, particularly its mouthwatering seafood

offerings, coupled with the cosy and relaxed ambience for a

pleasant escape. The club’s other features include a swimming

pool, children’s play area, boating activities, full shower and

changing facilities, a large-screen TV which can be enjoyed in

an air-conditioned room and a mini library. Not far from the club

is a popular Thai restaurant to satisfy your taste buds.

Tungku Beach

A favourite among local surfers, Tungku Beach offers workable

waves up to four feet high and 150 metres in length on average,

a rare offering that is not commonly found at other

beaches. Located just across The Empire Brunei and

not far from Universiti Brunei Darussalam, the beach is

especially a big hit during the weekends where visitors

can spot people picnicking, playing Frisbee or beach

volleyball and riding quad bikes (ATV) through the sand.

The Empire Brunei Beach

Perfect for a late afternoon stroll or a quick refreshing

swim, this private beach is owed and run by The Empire

Brunei. Treat yourself to breathtaking views of the

South China Sea at the immaculate Empire Hotel Beach.

Alternatively, guests who are looking for an adrenaline

rush can go for canoeing, kayaking or jet skiing, with

equipment all provided by the hotel.

Seri Kenangan Beach

The Seri Kenangan Beach is located in Tutong, popular

for gatherings, picnics, swimming and even fishing.

The beach provides amenities including food kiosks,

barbecue pits, a children’s playground, an outdoor gym

area and changing rooms. One of the beach’s interesting

features is a narrow section of land which mimics a

spit, sandwiched between the South China Sea and the

Tutong River.

Panaga Club and Kuala Belait Boat Club

Established in 1929 and located in Kuala Belait, the

Panaga Club is owned by Brunei Shell Petroleum with

a diverse array of social, sports and leisure facilities.

Watersports buffs will enjoy activities such as dinghy

sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and stand-up paddle

boarding. The Kuala Belait Boat Club is a part of the

Panaga Club and offers cruising, diving, power boating,

fishing and rowing.
