Borneo Bulletin Yearbook 2023

PREFACE

Brunei Darussalam’s economy is expected to grow, with the

Asian Development Bank (ADB) in April last year projecting

gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 4.2 per cent in 2022

and 3.6 per cent in 2023, while the ASEAN+3Macroeconomic

Research Office’s (AMRO) forecast GDP growth of 4.1 per

cent in 2022 and 2.3 per cent this year.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Brunei Darussalam

has continued to move forward, aiming for sustainable

economic diversification with a focus on five priority

sectors - downstream oil and gas, food, information and

communications technology, tourism and services.

The Borneo Bulletin Yearbook (BBYB) 2023 provides in-

depth insights into the initiatives implemented by the

government to support the growth of several industries in

the country across various sectors, particularly following the

unprecedented challenges of the pandemic and now that

the country has reached endemicity.

Notably, this year’s edition coincides with a significant

milestone as it marks the 30

th

anniversary of the BBYB, which

has provided an essential guide to Brunei Darussalam for the

public and businesses as well as visitors from overseas for

three decades.

Among the highlights of the 2023 edition is a special section

successful business leaders and youth in Brunei Darussalam

from various fields about their efforts and challenges faced

in building for the future.

BBYB 2023 features key information about Brunei, with a

focus on significant milestones achieved by the oil and

gas industry, the information and telecommunications

technology industry, innovative technology and creative

industry, the agriculture & aquaculture industry, the banking

industry, business services and tourism.

This comprehensive guide includes interviews with key

government officials who share insights into the country’s

economic outlook. Captains of industry from business

associations and regulatory bodies are also sought for their

views on the progress Brunei has made.

The yearbook also explores the stories of local companies

and individuals who have enjoyed measurable success in

their field, while also highlighting their dynamism, their ability

to sustain and how they have adapted to the challenging

times.

Success stories of Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) that

have established themselves in Brunei are also featured,

providing information regarding incentives on offer for other

prospective investors to consider.
