A

s the country’s sole cardiac specialist

hospital, Gleneagles JPMC remains

at the centre of Brunei’s fight against

heart disease. With advanced facilities,

specialist expertise, and proven outcomes,

the hospital continues to serve as the anchor

for cardiac care, ensuring that patients not

only receive the fastest possible treatment

but also the highest standard of care.

Beyond providing medical treatment,

Gleneagles JPMC continues to lead in

promoting health awareness among the

public. Because heart health is more than a

personal responsibility–it’s something that

affects our loved ones and our community.

Heart health is shaped by everyday lifestyle

choices, awareness and timely action.

In 2025, Gleneagles JPMC launched the

AcuteMyocardial Infarction (AMI) Awareness

Campaign, which promotes early recognition

of heart attack symptoms and timely

treatment.

The initiative builds on the success of

the STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial

Infarction) project, a collaboration with

the Ministry of Health (MoH), Emergency

Medical Ambulance Services (EMAS), and

Keeping The Heart Healthy

government hospitals, which has reduced

the average time from heart attack onset to

treatment from nearly two hours to under 30

minutes in Brunei-Muara. This improvement

has saved lives, reunited families and

improved patient outcomes.

“As we mark World Heart Day, let us

remember that heart health is not just the

responsibility of doctors and hospitals. It

is a collective responsibility – of families,

workplaces, schools, and communities. By

making healthier choices, acting quickly in

emergencies, and supporting one another,

we can turn the tide against heart disease,”

said CEO of Gleneagles JPMC Dr Peter Tay

at the campaign launch.

Under the theme ‘Awareness saves lives’,

the campaign was brought into schools,

workplaces, social media, and public events

to educate the public on recognising early

signs of a heart attack and the importance

of seeking immediate treatment.

To further reinforce thismessage, Gleneagles

JPMC brought together over 1,200

participants for World Heart Day Brunei Run

2025. Themed ‘Don’t Miss a Beat’, the event

featured three categories: 10km competitive

run, 5km fun run, and 2.5km family fun run.

Each categorydrewenthusiastic participation

from seasoned runners and casual joggers

alike.

The festive morning was marked by a sense

of unity and collective purpose. Families,

friends, and colleagues ran side by side –

many donning red in symbolic support of

heart health awareness. The event concluded

with a group photo session, celebrating not

just the winners but every participant who

contributed to the cause of healthier living.

Dr Tay extended appreciation to sponsors,

volunteers, and participants, noting that

“every step taken today is a step towards

prevention.” He emphasised the importance

of active lifestyles in reducing cardiovascular

risks.

More than a fitness event, the World

Heart Day Brunei Run 2025 underscores

Gleneagles JPMC’s ongoing commitment to

preventive healthcare and community well-

being. The annual initiative serves as both a

celebration of life and a reminder that small

lifestyle choices — from regular exercise to

early medical intervention — can make a big

difference.
