Several academic institutions in the country

have achieved notable milestones over the past

year.

In September 2020, 18 students of International

School Brunei in the 2020 cohort of 58 Year 13

students received the ISB Board of Directors

Awards for their performance, marking an

outstanding year of International Baccalaureate

(IB) Diploma results.

For reaching the top echelon of IB results,

graduates received Excellence Awards in

Bronze, Silver or Gold categories and graduates

who achieved substantial performance

improvement were awarded a Special

Achievement Award.

Jerudong International School students scored

highly on ‘A’ Level examination despite being

impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Some 100

students completed the ‘A’ Level studies with

39.8 per cent achieving grades A* to A, 63 per

cent, grades A* to B, 10 students, four A* or A

and 14 students, three A* or A.

In September 2020, Universiti Islam Sultan

Sharif Ali (UNISSA) notched another milestone

through its Islamic Economics and Finance

Faculty (FEKIm) after being awarded the Global

Islamic Finance Awards 2020 (GIFA 2020) for

two consecutive years where the university was

awarded for the GIFA Market Leadership Award

2020 (Education in Islamic Banking and Finance)

Category, outdoing three other nominated

institutions at the global level. FEKIm UNISSA

rst received the same GIFA Awards in 2019.

The nomination of FEKIm in GIFA fromCambridge

International Finance Advisor (IFA), United

Kingdom (UK) as the GIFA Awards nominee

2019 and 2020 is a major recognition in the

global industry towards the achievement of the

faculty in the development and advancement

of studies in the eld of global Islamic banking

and nance.

In June 2020, the Institute of Brunei Technical

Education (IBTE) introduced ‘iSkill’, its latest

new quali cation programme comprising

ve speci c courses to serve local industry

needs. The programme is developed in close

collaboration between the relevant industry

and the support of the Manpower Industry

Steering Committee Working Group (Energy),

together with IBTE.

The rst programme, iSkill™ NTec in Welding

(Oil & Gas), was launched in August 2020 and

conducted for two years at the IBTE Sultan

Bolkiah Campus, Seria. Other programmes

include ISQ in Scaffolder, ISQ in Rigger, ISQ in

Blaster Painter and ISQ in Marker/Pipe Fitter.
