C
elebrating its 40

anniversary on
January 16, 2026, Universiti Teknologi
Brunei (UTB) marks a significant
national milestone—four decades of
advancing higher education, nurturing
talent, and contributing meaningfully
to Brunei Darussalam’s socio-economic
development. From its humble beginnings as
a Higher National Diploma (HND) institution
to its evolution into a globally recognised
technological university, UTB today stands
as a cornerstone of the nation’s knowledge
economy and a centre of excellence in
engineering, technology, business, and
applied sciences.
Over the past 40 years, UTB’s growth has
been guided by a clear purpose: to deliver
education that is practical, future-ready,
and aligned with national aspirations.
This enduring commitment has enabled
the university to remain relevant across
generations, responding proactively to
changing industry needs, technological
advancements, and global challenges while
staying firmly rooted to Melayu Islam Beraja
(MIB).
At the heart of UTB’s journey is its guiding
philosophy of
Frontiers, Talent, Piety,
Dynamics, and ZeroWaste
—principles that
reflect both its legacy and future direction.

FROMROOTS TO
RELEVANCE
Established to meet the nation’s growing
demand for technically skilled professionals,
UTB has continuously evolved in step
with national and global developments.
What began as a technical institution has
transformed into a comprehensive university
offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and
doctoral programmes across Engineering,
Business, Computing, Applied Sciences and
Mathematics, Design, and Communication.
Throughout this transformation, UTB has
remained steadfast in delivering education
that balances strong theoretical foundations
with practical, industry-relevant application.
This distinctive approach has produced
graduates who are adaptable, innovative,
and professionally competent—qualities
essential in an increasingly complex and
competitive global landscape.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
ALIGNEDWITHNATIONAL
ASPIRATIONS
UTB’s academic framework is firmly aligned
with
Brunei Vision 2035
, with a focus on
developing highly educated, skilled, and
accomplished citizens. The university
places strong emphasis on outcome-based
education, professional readiness, and
lifelong learning to ensure graduates remain
resilient and relevant in a rapidly evolving
workforce.
A significant milestone in UTB’s academic
expansion is the launch of the
Doctor of
Business Administration (DBA)
programme
in January 2025, which welcomed its first
cohort of candidates. Designed around
applied research, the DBA enables senior
professionals and industry leaders to address
real organisational challenges, bridging
theory and practice while contributing to
sustainable economic growth and strategic
transformation.
Complementing this is UTB’s
Postgraduate
Micro-Credentials
programme, bench-
marked at Level 7 of the Brunei Darussalam
Qualifications Framework. This flexible,
modular
pathway
allows
working
professionals to upskill and reskill while
accumulating credits towards postgraduate
certificates and master’s qualifications,
reinforcing UTB’s role in workforce
development and lifelong learning.
ACCELERATED PATHWAYS
AND GLOBAL RECOGNITION
In line with international best practices,
UTB has restructured most undergraduate
programmes into three-year accelerated
pathways. This initiative enables students
to enter the workforce earlier without
compromising academic rigour, equipping
themwith critical thinking, problem-solving,
and adaptability skills required in dynamic
industries.
UTB’s commitment to quality is further
affirmed through extensive international
accreditation by professional bodies such
as the
British Computer Society (BCS)
,
