BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR

Don’t get stranded

Ah, the battery. The unsung hero until it

gives up on you in the middle of nowhere.

Before you hit the road, check that the

terminals are clean and corrosion-free.

Better yet, test the battery’s charge with

a multimeter or during your next service.

Also make sure the alternator is doing its

job properly. It keeps your battery juiced up

while you drive. If it’s faulty, you could find

yourself with a mysteriously dead battery

halfway through your playlist.

VISIBILITY

See and Be Seen

A clean windshield and fully working

wipers are non-negotiable. Frayed wiper

blades or ones that skip like a scratched

CD need replacing — stat. You don’t want

to squint through streaks or water smears

during a sudden tropical downpour.

For lighting, do a quick walk-around and

check everything. Headlights, brake lights,

indicators, reverse lights, even the interior

cabin ones. If something’s flickeringor dim,

swap it out before your trip. Carrying spare

bulbs and a mini toolkit can be a real trip-

saver.

CITY VS HIGHWAY

Know what you’re up against

Driving in town versus taking on the open

road? Two different beasts. City driving

involves more stop-start action, which

wears out your brakes and transmission

quicker. It also means more idling, which

isn’t great for your engine or wallet.

Long-distance cruising, on the other hand,

asks your car to perform non-stop for

hours — often under changing weather,

altitude shifts, and road conditions. That

puts extra stress on your car. A thorough

pre-trip check helps prep for both styles

of driving.

SMOOTH TRIPS STARTWITH SMART PREP

At the end of the day, a bit of time spent under the bonnet

and around the car is a small price to pay for peace of mind. A

quick inspection before a long journey canmean the difference

between a stress-free cruise and being stuck on the roadside

googling “tow truck near me.”

So buckle up, check the essentials, and enjoy the ride. Because

with a well-prepped car, the only thing you’ll need to worry

about is picking the next song on your playlist.
