One of BGC’s most significant

milestones is attaining its Document of

Compliance (DoC) from the Maritime

and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam

(MPABD).

“We previously used Shell International

Trading and Shipping Company

(STASCO) as our ship managers, but

in the last few years we were able to

get our DoC from MPABD and are now

recognised as ship managers in our

own right, showing that we are capable

of delivering LNG or whatever we

need to deliver onboard our ships by

ourselves,” he said.

Other milestones include having

female officers and cadets onboard,

conducting LNG STS Operations, and

delivering cargoes to new, challenging

ports. BGC played a significant part in

commissioning a new LNG Terminal

at RGT Pengerang in Malaysia. Despite

the pandemic, BGC completed its

delivery for the past four years without

any delay.

“This is to prove to people that we

are more than capable of achieving

notable feats for Brunei Darussalam.

We have the best of all that is able to be

offered. But again, we are all supported

by the Government and our directors

to drive to that vision.”

The managing director also underlined

the importance of teamwork and

having competent people, both

onshore and offshore. Without both

sides working together, the company

would not be where it is now, said the

managing director.

Awareness around the company has

also improved, with BGC known for its

role of delivering LNG. As a shipping

company, BGC looks into delivering

other substances such as ammonia

and hydrogen in the future.

“Our vision is to become a very

competitive company that can

compete internationally. That’s where

we want to go, not just in Brunei

Darussalam.”

Touching on future plans, themanaging

director said, “As things dictate, with

new regulations and climate change,

we want to move into greener

technologies. I need to be able to take

this company into newer markets. I

need to ensure that all our vessels or

our assets are more than capable of

grasping these new opportunities in

these newer markets, and be sure that

we are there first and foremost be able

to grab all these opportunities for the

Bruneian seafarers as well, and not just

in BGC, but in the maritime industry in

Brunei Darussalam.”
