Investing in local talent
and digital technology
BGC is a company made by Bruneians
for Bruneians. By investing in local
talent, BGC believes it can help
support Brunei Vision 2035 and further
strengthen the country’s economy.
In support of His Majesty Sultan
Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin
Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan
Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi
Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan
of Brunei Darussalam’s Government to
see the involvement of Bruneians in all
aspects of the oil and gas industry, BGC
aspires to be the country’s main talent
pipeline for the marine industry. The
recently launched Bridge Simulator
Training Centre (BSTC) is one of the
initiatives by BGC to develop the local
maritime industry.
BGC considers its people as its most
important asset, and the company
provides a wide range of upskilling
opportunities for its staff as well as
learning and development sessions
such as the Office Development Day in
2022. Earlier this year, BGC launched
its LinkedIn Learning programme so
its staff can learn anytime anywhere
through a personalised learning
experience.
The company is also constantly
looking at other ways to improve itself
to remain competitive and ensure
sustained growth across its entire
business. In these unprecedented
times, the ability of shipping services
to continue undisrupted across the
continents plays a critical role in
overcoming global situations like the
COVID-19 pandemic. As such, BGC has
embarked on its digital transformation
roadmap supported by five key pillars:
Operation Optimisation, Fleet Safety
and Reliability, Process and Data
Excellence, Cost Competitiveness,
and Digital Competency.
Since 2020, BGC had achieved
several milestones in its key project
deliveries such as the Crew Manning
System, Crew Portal for Seafarers and
Cybersecurity Technical Implementation
on its vessels as part of its Digital
Transformation Roadmap Journey. BGC
is also working towards increasing its
workforce digital competency through
the Power BI Programme. The digital
transformation journey will continue with
its Fleet Enterprise Resource Planning
(ERP) Project implementation.
Operations
As technology continues to evolve,
adapting to technological changes is a
necessityandBGCstrivestocontinuously
elevate its standards of operations,
following international benchmarks. All
of the BGC ships have Dual Fuel Diesel
Electric Engines (DFDE) that are at least
30 per cent more energy-efficient than
its previous steam ships in addition to
being more environmentally sustainable.
Taking into account uncertainties in the
future of shipping technologies, BGC
also acknowledges the need to consider
the use of bridging technologies and
fuel flexibility to facilitate the transition
from traditional fuels.
