supports the multimedia and creative industry

partnership with Microsoft and Sesame World

Awarding Creativity and Innovation

The nation’s highest competition award for

creativity and innovation is the Crown Prince

CIPTA Awards. Fittingly, CIPTA is a Malay

word which means “create” and CIPTA stands

for ‘Creative and Innovative Product and

Technological Advancement Awards’.

The CIPTA competition is sponsored by Brunei

LNG Sdn Bhd and coordinated by the premier

technology-based tertiary education institution

in the country, Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

Divided across several demographic and

institutional divisions, the CIPTA competition

has been making a push towards producing

creative and innovative designers, especially

youth, in science and technology to diversify

Brunei’s economy.

The CIPTA competition is open to participants

from other ASEAN countries. In 2017, the

competition received 47 entries, 10 of which

were from other ASEAN countries. It is hoped

the participation of other ASEAN countries

will inspire local competitors and set a new

benchmark of quality for future CIPTA awards.

Siemens

As a global powerhouse focussed on

electrification, automation and digitalisation,

Siemens is one of the world’s largest industrial

manufacturing company. Siemens set up its

office in Brunei in 1998 as a telecommunication

company known as Siemens Advance

Engineering Pte Ltd, Brunei Branch.

In November 2018, Siemens and the Ministry of

Development held the Joint Technical Seminar

on Operations Intelligence Platform and Smart

Water Meter Data Management System. The

seminar aimed to share knowledge regarding

new technologies employed in building and

asset management. It acted as a platform

for strategic collaboration in developing

mechanisms for sharing cost savings from new

technologies in asset management programmes

among the various agencies involved. In this

knowledge-sharing platform, experts addressed

problems related to assets, especially when

implementing such technologies.

“Digitalisation, connection and connectivity is

very important these days. How you maximise

your assets, production, manufacturing, go-to-

market; we have to embrace it,” said Siemens

Country Manager (Brunei) Kamaljit Singh Gill.

A key focus of the event was Siemens XHQ

Operations Intelligence, a digital platform

designed to bridge the worlds of operations

technology and information technology. The
