Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) was incorporated

in 1998 as a joint venture between the

Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji

Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni

Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien

Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-

Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Shell Gas BV

and Diamond Gas Carriers BV. Till today, the

company continues to provide the top quartile

safety and reliability performance while being

competitive in the liquefied natural gas (LNG)

maritime transportation industry.

LNGisoneofBrunei’smajorexportscontributing

significantly to the nation’s economy. Since its

establishment, BGC has been a vital force in

contributing to the Brunei LNG value chain. BGC

currently owns five A-Class vessels - Abadi,

Arkat, Amali, Amani and Amadi with capacities

ranging from 137,000 m

to 154,800 m

3

. The

company delivers Brunei LNG’s products to

its clients in the Asia Pacific region including

Japan, Malaysia and Taiwan.

Local talent

BGC has increased their efforts to support

local talent growth and strengthen their

workforce. In 2011, BGC began operating

its own Fleet Management Department. All

operational aspects within Brunei’s LNG fleet

are managed by local BGC staff and Shell

International Trading and Shipping Company

Limited (STASCO). The aim is to transfer

knowledge and prepare BGC to establish itself

as a competent and reliable ship owner and

manager of its own right.

As of 2018, BGC’s fleet surpassed 16.7 million

man hours without lost time injury (LTI) and 1.4

million man hours without any total recordable
